What's New?

Thanks for the feedback. We have been listening to you and have made the following enhancements to make DriveBC more effective. We are continuing to work on improvements to the desktop and mobile websites.

Enhancements released October 2015:

  1. Open 511 Meets DriveBC

In October 2015 DriveBC made all of its live road event and condition data available to the public via a brand new API (Application Programming Interface) using the Open511 standard. Open511-DriveBC is the first Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure API to be released by the province with data licensed under the Open Government License.
  2. What does Open511 mean for you?

In a nutshell, Open511 means that any application or web developer can now incorporate British Columbia’s provincial road event and condition information into their apps, meaning seamless road event information for you. Talk about an information highway – the potential for innovation is nearly unlimited!

Enhancements released April 2014:

  1. Travelling across BC? Check out the new rest area icons on the DriveBC map!
B.C. has over 150 rest areas located along the provincial highway network, available for you to take a short break. All rest areas are equipped with garbage cans and the majority have picnic tables. All have toilets – ranging from classic rustic pit toilets, compost toilets, and full-flush facilities. Some rest areas even have trails and scenic lookouts.
Select the rest area icon from the DriveBC map legend and zoom in to get a closer look. You can get a better idea of what the facility looks like by clicking on "Street View" which will provide you with a visual from Google Street View™.
  2. Height Clearance Tool
The Commercial Vehicle Route Planner has been renamed as the Height Clearance Tool. This new name more clearly reflects the underlying purpose of the tool which is to identify structures along a route that do not meet the height and width clearances specified in the search.

Enhancements released January 2014:

  1. Commercial Vehicle Route Planner
The Commercial Vehicle Route Planner is a tool that displays the shortest driving distance as provided by Google Maps and identifies clearance restrictions (where known) along the provincial road network. It is intended for informational purposes only and does not imply approval for a permit. (For additional permit information see www.cvse.ca.)
    navigation menu
Users must provide their vehicle height and width as well as the trip origin and destination.
    Inputs
The results will show height and width restrictions along the provincial road network which are less than the specified dimensions of the vehicle. Table items marked in RED are measurements in conflict with vehicle's dimensions. A user can click on the height or width measurements to view comments when they are shown as hyperlinks and conflict measurements when shown in bold.
