About DriveBC

DriveBC is the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure's traveller information system. By providing timely road condition and incident information for the provincial highway system, motorists can decide when to travel and what route to take. This information is updated at regular intervals and as highway conditions change. Traveller information is provided only for provincially-managed transportation routes in British Columbia. Federal, municipal, forest service and industrial resource roads are not considered part of the provincial highway system, and therefore are not reported on through DriveBC.

Help

DriveBC is a flexible, easy to use system allowing travellers to quickly access road condition and incident information on routes along the provincial highway network. DriveBC offers three ways for travellers to access this information: Map View, Event List, and via our toll-free phone service.

1. Map View

DriveBC's Welcome page depicts a map of the province. Simply click on the map to zoom in to the corresponding area of the province, or select the Map View tab. When viewing the provincial highway routes in Map View, click on the positive magnifying icon, double-click on the map, or scroll your mouse track wheel to zoom in on any area of the province. You can also zoom directly to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Districts with the "Zoom To" dropdown in the upper left corner of the map window. Pan in any direction by clicking and dragging the screen. Click the negative magnifying icon or scroll your mouse track wheel to zoom out again.

To view the information provided on the map, simply click on an icon to display details about the nature and location of that incident or road condition. The map automatically shows Road Condition, Incident, Current and Future Planned Event icons. To view Web Camera, Inland Ferry, Weather Forecast and Dynamic Message Sign icons or the Show Route function, click the appropriate box in the Legend drop-down menu found at the top right of the map.

Not interested in a certain type(s) of information? Then uncheck the appropriate box on the map Legend drop-down menu.

If multiple icons appear on top of one another, zoom in to separate the images. An icon with a plus symbol indicates there are multiples in that area. Zoom in to separate the icons, or click on the icon to display a window that will provide further information for all the related items.

The camera icon points in the direction that the camera is oriented. If there are multiple viewpoints in the same location (denoted by a black and white plus symbol in the upper right corner) the icon defaults to west-facing orientation.

Use the swap endpoints swap icon to reverse the endpoints.

Click the 'Find Route' button when ready. You may possibly be prompted with a list of options for the start and/or end locations when alternatives are found. Change the default selection if necessary then click on 'Continue'.

When a mainland border crossing is detected, a sorted list of crossings is displayed for you to select from.

Tips:

  1. To hide the map, uncheck the "Include Map" box.
  2. The mainland border crossings list (Peace Arch/Aldergrove/Pacific Highway/Sumas) include estimated crossing delays and are sorted by time, shortest to longest.

"Plan Your Route" displays the shortest driving distance, as provided by Google, and may include roads that DriveBC does not report on. The identified route does not account for DriveBC closures or delays, and will not provide alternate routes to avoid delays. This feature is for information purposes only.
